Food Stamp Program/Oregon Trail Card
The Food Stamp Program can help you buy food. If you are eligible, you'll get an "Oregon Trail Card" to use at the grocery store. Paper Food Stamp coupons aren't used any more.
If you qualify for the program, you get benefits within 30 days of turning in the first part of the application. In some cases, you can get Food Stamps earlier, within 7 days. Be sure to tell the Senior and Disability Services staff if you need to get Food Stamps sooner or you have an emergency or if one of the following situation applies:
- You earn less than $150 per month, and your cash and bank accounts total $100 or less.
- The total of your monthly income, cash and money in the bank is less than your total housing and utility costs for a month.
- You are a migrant or seasonal farm worker and have very little money.
Facts about Food Stamps
- You do not need to be "on welfare" to get food stamps.
- You do not have to pay for food stamps.
- If your family uses WIC or school meal programs, you may also get food stamps.
- Food stamps are available to all low-income households, including senior citizens, people with disabilities, childless adults, as well as people with children.
You may be able to get food stamps even if:
You own your home. (No lien will be placed on it).
You are working full-time or part-time.
You get unemployment insurance.
You have a good car and money in the bank.
You are going to school.
You are a couple.
You are living with others.
Families and Individuals may qualify for other benefits due to their eligibility for and receipt of Food Stamp benefits. Some of these benefits are:
Eligibility for Oregon Telephone Assistance Program (OTAP).
Link Up America (helps reduce the costs of telephone installation or monthly service rates.
The purchase of prepared meals using Food Stamps if you are homeless, elderly or a person with a disability.
Eligible for School Lunch and Child Care food programs.
Eligible for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) nutrition program. Applications are through your local County Health Department.
Eligibility for reduced fees for Drug and Alcohol Treatment programs.
