OCWCOG provides numerous services to senior citizens year-round, including Meals on Wheels, Veteran’s services, Medicaid assistance, money management assistance, and much more. Together with organizations across the country, OCWCOG recognizes the month of May as Older Americans Month. Older Americans Month offers an opportunity to emphasize how older adults can access the home- and community-based services they need to live independently in their communities. It is also an occasion to highlight how older adults are engaging with and making a difference in those communities.

During the remainder of the month, OCWCOG will be conducting and participating in events throughout our tri-county Region of Linn, Benton, and Lincoln Counties. OCWCOG member cities and counties have, or will be, issuing proclamations highlighting the importance of seniors in their communities. The proclamation focuses on enhancing the lives of the seniors in our communities by:

  • Promoting home- and community-based services that support independent living;
  • Involving older adults in community events and other activities; and
  • Providing opportunities for older adults to work, volunteer, learn, lead, and mentor.

OCWCOG is encouraging seniors and our fellow citizens to engage in activities and wellness this coming month and throughout the year.

Older Americans Month has been celebrated since 1963, when communities across the country have shown their gratitude each May.
