Eclipse Update – February 2017

At the request of Oregon Emergency Management, the Governor’s Regional Solutions Team convened two Eclipse meetings in our Region last month, one in Albany and the other in Waldport. The purpose of the meetings was to bring together public safety and public land managers with event, tourism, and visitor planners in order to share information on plans and events/activities regarding the Total Eclipse of the Sun that will occur in our Region on August 21, 2017. More than 80 attendees, including federal, state, and local agencies, plus several tourism and visitor organizations, attended one or both of the meetings.

Tom Carrico, a local astronomer presented information on the Eclipse, which will draw visitors to Oregon to view the unique event. Mr. Carrico provided a link, www.astronomytom.com, that has information to Solar Eclipse information, where to buy materials, and information on a local astronomy club.
